High School Economics Challenge – Online Preliminaries

March 2nd – March 20th, 2015

Online

Teachers can register as many teams of 3 or 4 students as they would like to take online tests in 1 of 2 divisions (beginning and advanced).  The top 5 teams from each division and each region of the state will then advance to the State Finals.  The winners of the State Finals will complete a proctored exam at their high school for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to New York to compete at the NY Stock Exchange for the national title.

High School Personal Finance Challenge – Online Preliminaries

March 2nd – March 20th, 2015

Online

Teachers can register as many teams of 3 or 4 students as they would like to take online tests.  The top 10 teams will then advance to the State Finals.  The top 3 teams from the State Finals will receive cash prizes for each teacher and team member of $500, $300, and $150, respectively.  The winners of the State Finals will also receive an all-expense paid trip to Kansas City to compete for the national title.

High School Financial Advisor Contest – Online Preliminaries

March 9th – April 10th, 2015

Online

Teachers form teams of four students which are enrolled in one of the two Financial Advisor Contest’s divisions.  Students will compete in an online test consisting of multiple choice questions and a short free response question.  The eight teams in each division with the highest scores will move on to the finals.

Los Angeles Federal Reserve Bank

Teams advancing from the Online Preliminaries will compete in this in-person challenge.  Students will complete written tests, and the day will culminate in a fast-paced “Quiz Bowl” round, where all teams will go head-to-head.  The top team from each of the two divisions (beginning and advanced) will get to take a proctored test at their high school.  The top four teams from each division across the nation, based on the proctored test, will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York and get to compete in the National Championship!

Financial Literacy 101 Workshop

Do you want to teach personal finance to your students, but do not know where to begin?  Are you already teaching personal finance, but are not sure what to teach?  Do you want to see sample lessons and learn when/where they can be integrated into your classes?  Then this workshop is for you!  Join CCEE on May 9th at West Los Angeles College for a workshop that will provide you with lesson demonstrations, curriculum, a framework of standards, and much more!

High School Financial Advisor Contest – California State Championship

May 20th, 2015

Los Angeles Federal Reserve Bank

Each team selected to continue in the competition will be paired with a mentor from the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Los Angeles (CFALA) to create an investment portfolio based on an individual’s profile. At this stage, students take the role of financial advisors and develop an investment strategy that is appropriate for the goals and the objectives of the investor. Students will prepare a ten minute presentation to be presented.  The two teams in each division with the strongest presentations in Round 1 will participate in a fun, game show style, assessment of each team’s knowledge of economics and finance. Before leaving the Federal Reserve, teams in each division will be awarded cash prizes.
