California Council on Economic Education Receives $25,000 Grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation
Los Angeles, CA – Dec. 15, 2009 – The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE), a non-profit dedicated to advancing economic literacy throughout California, today announced it was awarded a $25,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The grant will be used to support the organization’s operating expenses and programs in 2010, which include the Capital Markets Contest, Financial Smarts for Teachers and the Teacher Guide to the California Economic Standards workshops.
“The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is pleased to support CCEE’s efforts to generate awareness about the importance of early education in economics and financial reasoning,” said Danielle Campos of Bank of America. “We know that the skills students will learn through the various programs and workshops CCEE offers will help them throughout their lives, and positively impact society.”
CCEE’s programs revolve around basic economics principles with the ultimate goal of advancing economic literacy in California. These principles are intended to help teachers and students see that economics permeates their lives and that a solid understanding of economic reasoning can lead them to more informed decisions in their personal lives and in their lives as workers/entrepreneurs, consumers/savers/investors, and citizens.
Upcoming programs/workshops for CCEE in the first quarter of 2010 include the Capital Markets Contest teacher workshop in February, the MoneyWiseTeen in March, and the California Economics Challenge in April.
“CCEE exists because of grants such as this one from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation,” said CCEE Executive Director Jim Charkins. “We are grateful that they share in our commitment to community, education, and economic and financial literacy throughout the state.”
