Comprehensive economics and financial literacy programs for K–12 teachers

The California Council on Economic Education, CCEE, has developed a broad range of materials and partnered with the national Council on Economic Education, to bring teachers and students of all ages programs that teach three main lessons:

  • Decision-making skills to deal with real-life financial and economic issues
  • Importance of staying in school and human capital by building skills and knowledge
  • Analytical and critical decision making through understanding benefit/cost analysis
  • The “rules of the game” regarding markets and the global economy

Elementary School

K–6 Choices and Changes Uses children’s literature to teach analytical decision making, the importance of developing human capital, and the connection between success in school and success in life. Check the calendar for upcoming events

Middle School
6–8 It’s Your Choice Through four interactive animated online stories, students discover that their decisions today influence their opportunities for success in life. New program! Coming soon April 2011 Contact the Program Manager for more information
6–8 Financial Fitness for Life: 6–8 Economic reasoning, investment in human capital, saving and spending, credit and money management.
High School
9–12 Teaching the High School Economics Course 23 units explain economics concepts and principles. Includes explanations, suggestions for teaching, available resources to help students learn, tips for helping students avoid common mistakes, and downloadable PowerPoint presentations. 9–12 MoneyWiseTeen Ten online animated stories teach basic economics principles in a financial context. Visit MoneyWiseTeen site

9–12 Living the American Dream Teaches basic economics in the context of financing, buying, and owning a home. This program is currently closed. Send us your name for the wait list.
9–12 Learning, Earning, and Investing Investing benefits and risks, critical role of fostering capital formation and job creation in a free market system. This book is used as preparation for the Stock Market Game.
